I don’t have an actual ritual for my coffee, unless you count staggering from my bedroom at six thirty a.m. to quickly make a cup of instant coffee before the grandkids arrive. I have six of them and, just as our parents helped us while we were both working, we help our kids with childcare. It’s so expensive, I don’t know how anyone without extended family can work. We’re down to the last two in the daytime now. A four year old and a two year old. The four year old will start school in September so the baby will have exclusive run of our house. At three, the school pick ups begin and I bring the others home for their tea and keep hold of them until their parents arrive from work. I don’t have all the grandchildren every day so I have to remember which school we need to be at. I have nightmares of arriving at the wrong place. It’s busy but this phase won’t last, the older two grandkids are already in high school. I’m glad to be part of the kids’ lives.
